Junior School Curriculum and Assessments

Our comprehensive curriculum and assessments ensure each student’s growth and achievement.

At our academies we believe in the importance of building solid foundations so that students are well equipped with the skills and experiences necessary for the twenty first century and beyond. We want to ensure that our students are lifelong learners with attributes which are transferable to a range of situations and contexts.

At the heart of all that we do is a belief in strong moral values within an Islamic ethos. We believe in having respect for ourselves and each other so students will develop skills which will enable them to pro-actively contribute to society in a positive way.

We seek to develop students’ confidence, resilience and leadership skills so that they may become active and responsible citizens in a global world. Students will be encouraged to learn from mistakes and to maximise their potential. They will be encouraged to develop interests in activities beyond those in school. They will be encouraged to be creative and to develop independence so that they can become life-long learners and our future leaders.

Ta’allum Junior Schools offer a curriculum which is broad and balanced and which builds on the knowledge, understanding and skills of all children, whatever their starting points, as they progress through each Key Stage.

The Ta’allum Junior Curriculum incorporates elements of the Key Stage 2 national curriculum in its focus on core skills and depth of understanding, as well as best international practice in its global and creative approach to topics. This, alongside the Qatar national curriculum, taught through Arabic medium subjects, ensures that students retain a respect and understanding for their national and religious heritage and their native language. The Ta’allum Junior Curriculum aims to ensure that students develop great depth of understanding and competence in skills at the same time as taking account of their second language learning needs, their cultural heritage and the global perspective Ta’allum aims to inculcate in its students.

At Ta’allum Junior Schools, technology is seamlessly integrated into teaching, learning, and assessment to foster innovation, creativity, and digital confidence. The use of a variety of educational platforms and age-appropriate AI tools enhances student engagement, supports personalised learning, and provides teachers with valuable insights to inform instruction. Through interactive lessons, digital projects, and adaptive assessments, students are encouraged to think critically, collaborate effectively, and become technologically literate learners—well-prepared for the demands of a rapidly evolving world.

Children study English, Mathematics, Science, Art & Design Technology, Computing, Qatar History, Life Skills and PE alongside Arabic, Islamic Studies, Holy Quran and Makarem lessons.

The curriculum at Ta’allum Junior Schools aims to:

  1. Inspire children to develop a love of learning.
  2. Embed skills to prepare children for further learning and productive adulthood.
  3. Take learning beyond the classroom.
  4. Develop children to become reflective learners who have a sense of responsibility for their own learning and development.
  5. Build confidence and motivation within our children, so that they become future leaders.
  6. Grow children who understand the importance of perseverance, resilience and tolerance.
  7. Enable children to use their acquired skills and knowledge to observe, question and think.
  8. Learn to value others, their views, and cultures, from a global perspective.

Our curriculum is underpinned by the National Curriculum (2014), we adapt and enhance this with Arabic, Islamic, Holy Q’uran and Makarim lessons. Learning is always exciting and is taught through a meaningful context for children. Where commonality exists between subjects and aspects, learning is linked and lessons taught using a cross-curricular approach. Where this is not achievable, subjects are taught discretely. The rehearsal and application of basic skills learned in the core curriculum is a driver for the entire curriculum.

We place a strong emphasis on the development of the basic skills necessary to be confident independent learners and successful adults. Children rapidly begin to read independently in our Year 1 classes by following a phonics programme. All children engage in daily literacy skills session where they develop their reading and comprehension skills in addition to developing a command of all aspects of the English language. In addition, all children take part in a daily English and Mathematics lessons.
